کلروپرومازین به عنوان سدی در گیرنده دوپامین عمل میکند یعنی گیرنده را اشغال میکند در نتیجه دوپامین به گیرنده نمی چسبد و اثر دوپامین را
پایین می آورد.
رزرپین: کیسه ذخیره پایانه سیناپسی را تخریب میکند و دوپامین کاهش می یابد.
کارایی این دو دارو منجر به طرح فرضیه دوپامین شده است و هر دو دارو ضد روان پریشی هستند.
